A Pokémon TCG shop that sold everything through Instagram DMs. Now it runs its own online catalog without changing how it likes to sell.
Dragon Dance is run by Kiki, a collector who turned his hobby into a real shop: authentic Pokémon TCG singles, graded slabs, sealed boxes, toys and plushies. The business was healthy; the workflow wasn't. The whole catalog lived in Instagram posts and in Kiki's head, so every "is this still available?" was a DM, and every price check was a scroll through old chats.
But Kiki didn't want a webstore. Collectors like closing deals in chat, that's part of the shop's charm. So the brief became:
Make the catalog browsable and self-serve, but keep the selling human. The project brief
Browsable products with live availability and condition grades. English and Indonesian with one toggle. Fast on mobile, where the customers are.
Every product's buy button deep-links into WhatsApp or Instagram DM with the product pre-filled. The deal still closes in conversation.
Kiki manages products, photos, sales, invoices, receipts, and events himself, from a panel shaped around how he actually works.
most customers arrive from Instagram, on a phone
Buy buttons pre-write the WhatsApp message. If chats pile up faster than Kiki can answer, new orders auto-hold so the inbox never floods.
Recording a sale flows from invoice to receipt to "sold" in one path, so the books and the catalog never disagree.
Inventory mirrors nightly into a read-only Google Sheet, so Kiki can check stock the old way without being able to break the site.
Greens and gold sampled from the dragon crest, athletic italic type, and the signature red-rug product photos the shop was known for.
Product structured data, prerendered pages for crawlers, and an llms.txt, so "Pokémon cards Jakarta" conversations can surface the shop.
Illustrated guides for the admin panel, the sheet, and the brand, written for Kiki, not for developers.
The catalog now answers "what's in stock and how much?" on its own. That question used to eat Kiki's day. Customers arrive in chat already knowing what they want. Day-to-day, no developer is needed for anything.
The engagement ran like all my projects: scope agreed in writing first, progress visible on a live client dashboard throughout, and a documented handover at the end.
"Joe's work was amazing, his customer service experience in working with him as his client was top-notch, he guided me through his client page, and he did everything that I ask for in making my website.
